Donate Your Car in Arkansas by Dec 31 for This Year’s Tax Break

Two minutes to start, one call to schedule. In Arkansas, a pickup date on or before December 31 locks in your IRS donation year. Free towing, running or not—start now before pickup slots fill.

If your vehicle is picked up on or before December 31 in Arkansas, the IRS counts your car donation for this tax year. With Arkansas Auto Bridge, it takes about two minutes to start. You either complete our quick online form or call us on behalf of Heritage for the Blind, a registered 501(c)(3). A local coordinator calls you back, usually within 1–2 business hours, to confirm a free pickup time that fits your schedule—often same-day or next business day in most metro areas.

We serve donors across Arkansas—from Little Rock, North Little Rock and Conway to Fayetteville, Springdale, Bentonville, Fort Smith, Jonesboro, Pine Bluff, Hot Springs, Rogers and more rural communities in between. Your car does not need to run, pass inspection, or have current registration. At pickup, you sign the title over; we handle the rest. After your vehicle is sold, Heritage for the Blind mails you the required written acknowledgment or IRS Form 1098‑C, so you can claim your deduction when you file. To lock in this year’s deduction, lock in your pickup date by December 31—start your donation now.

Start the 2‑Minute Donation Form or Call

2 minutes

In Arkansas, your fastest path is to complete our simple online form or call Arkansas Auto Bridge on behalf of Heritage for the Blind. Provide basic contact info, vehicle details, and your ideal pickup days. This takes about two minutes and immediately puts your donation into our scheduling system for year‑end.

Coordinator Calls to Lock In Pickup Date

Within 1–2 business hours

A donation coordinator calls you back, usually within 1–2 business hours on weekdays, to confirm your free tow. You choose a pickup window that works—often same‑day or next business day in Little Rock, Northwest Arkansas, and other metro areas. The date you pick (on or before Dec 31) is what matters to the IRS.

3

Free Tow Truck Arrives at Your Arkansas Address

Same-day or next business day in most metro areas

Our licensed tow partner comes to your home, work, or storage lot in Arkansas—no need to drive the vehicle anywhere. Most pickups in areas like Little Rock, Fayetteville, Fort Smith, and Jonesboro can be scheduled for same‑day or next business day near year‑end, subject to open time slots.

4

Sign the Title at Pickup and Hand Over Keys

5–10 minutes at the truck

At pickup, you sign your Arkansas title over to Heritage for the Blind’s authorized agent and remove your personal items. The tow driver provides a basic pickup receipt. From this point, your vehicle is officially donated, and your tax year is locked by the actual pickup date—not when it is later sold.

5

Vehicle Sold and Tax Receipt Mailed to You

Receipt within 30 days of sale

Your donated vehicle is transported, processed, and sold. Within 30 days of the sale, Heritage for the Blind mails you a written acknowledgment or IRS Form 1098‑C, showing the gross sale price and required details. You use this with your tax return to substantiate your charitable deduction.

Year-end tax deduction facts

Dec 31 Pickup = This Year’s Tax Year

The IRS uses the date your car is transferred to the charity—your physical pickup date—as the donation date. If your Arkansas vehicle is picked up on or before December 31, it counts as a donation for that tax year.

Written Acknowledgment or IRS Form 1098‑C

For vehicle donations, the charity must send you a written acknowledgment or IRS Form 1098‑C. Heritage for the Blind mails this within 30 days after your car is sold so you can claim your deduction with full IRS documentation.

Deduction Usually Equals the Sale Price

In most cases, your allowable federal deduction equals the gross sale price of the vehicle reported by the charity. This amount appears on your acknowledgment or 1098‑C and is what you typically use when you itemize on Schedule A.

Itemizing on Schedule A

To claim a vehicle donation, you generally need to itemize deductions on IRS Schedule A instead of taking the standard deduction. The value from your 1098‑C or written acknowledgment is entered as a charitable contribution.

30‑Day Receipt Window

Federal rules require the charity to send your acknowledgment or Form 1098‑C within 30 days of selling the vehicle. Arkansas Auto Bridge’s process with Heritage for the Blind is designed to meet this window so you’re ready at tax time.

FAQ

If my car is picked up on December 31 in Arkansas, does it count for this year’s taxes?
Yes. The IRS looks at when you transfer the vehicle to the charity, not when it is sold. If the tow truck picks up your vehicle in Arkansas and you sign the title over on or before December 31, your donation counts for that tax year, even if the sale and tax receipt occur later.
How late in December can I start the process and still make the deadline?
You should start as early as possible, because year‑end pickup slots fill fast. In many Arkansas metro areas we can still arrange same‑day or next‑day pickups in the final week of December, but once December 31 time slots are full, we cannot guarantee a same‑year deduction. Start the 2‑minute form or call now to lock in a date.
Does my car have to run or pass Arkansas inspection to donate?
No. Your vehicle does not need to run, pass inspection, or have recent registration. We accept many non‑running vehicles in Little Rock, Fayetteville, Bentonville, Fort Smith, Jonesboro and beyond. As long as we can safely access and tow it, we can usually accept it and arrange free pickup at your Arkansas location.
What paperwork do I need at pickup in Arkansas?
In most cases, you’ll need your Arkansas vehicle title and a valid ID. At pickup, you sign the title over to Heritage for the Blind’s authorized agent. The tow driver will guide you through where to sign. You’ll also remove your license plates if required by Arkansas law and take out all personal belongings from the vehicle.
When and how do I get my tax receipt or Form 1098‑C?
After we tow your vehicle and it is sold, Heritage for the Blind will mail you a written acknowledgment or IRS Form 1098‑C, typically within 30 days of the sale. This document lists the gross sale price and other IRS‑required information that you’ll use when you file your federal return and itemize your charitable deductions.
Can I still donate if my registration or tags are expired?
Yes. Current registration is not required to donate through Arkansas Auto Bridge. As long as you are the legal owner and have the title (or can obtain a replacement), we can usually complete the donation and arrange free towing, even if your Arkansas plates or registration stickers are expired.
Who benefits from my Arkansas car donation?
Your vehicle donation through Arkansas Auto Bridge supports Heritage for the Blind, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization (EIN 58‑2164446). Proceeds help fund programs and services for people who are blind or visually impaired. You receive free nationwide towing, and a tax acknowledgment for your federal return, while your old vehicle is turned into meaningful support.
